Win98SE boot logo disappears prematurely!

Hey all...

I'm finally getting around to cleaning up little details of my install and I'm working on the whole "boot issue" now... One of the problems I'm having is eith the Windows boot logo. As far as I remember, Windows is "supposed" to go directly from the boot logo to the logon/desktop screen. Well, mine doesn't! It drops back to the BIOS information screen for a few seconds before going into Windows. It's not displaying any error messages or anything, just the usual BIOS data and the DMI pool data message.

I have no autoexec.bat or config.sys files.

So, anyone else having this problem? Perhaps they figured out how to fix it? :)

I seem to remember my win98 installs doing this too. It never caused me any trouble.

Why does this need to be fixed? It doesn't sound like anything bad is happening.

i know if you hit a key when win98 logo it up, it takes you back to your text screen. not that it'lll solve yer problem

If you have some junk in the autoexec.bat that don't start quiet, they may be displacing the boot screen.

If this answer is already over your head, then do a search on the internet for MSCONFIG or WINDOWS TWEAKS.

Basically you need to remove the useless crap in the autoexec file. (that is a DOS autoloader from the beforetime) The DOS type programs are what you see instead of the boot logo.

Note that I said remove the useless crap...you must keep the important crap there, so do some research on what you need/don't need.

But MSCONFIG will allow you to easily adjust the autoexec.bat file, in a window, with checkmarks etc, without permanently removing anything...so if you uncheck something, you can recheck it later...no problem.

Umm....? ;)

I don't think you can fix this.. 9x has always done this.

If you don't want to see the DOS screen on the boot up for asthetic reasons, create an autoexec.bat and put in cls in it.. This will clear the screen and at least it will just be black until the 98 desktop loads.

It needs to be fixed because I don't like it :) I think it looks very Mickey Mouse. I know many things the good folks at Microsoft do look unprofessional but I was hoping that this one was fixable.

I am having the same problem. The win98 logo has gone after modifying the MsDos line in MsDos.sys file BootGUI to 0. I want it back so I can put my own bitmap image in it.never mins about the procedure involved in changing it as I already know this, I simply want it back, and not the dos screen that is giving me nightmares.You try it yourselves so you can see this and try and revert back if you can.Please let me know if you are successful and pass on the info to me please.
