Try tweak UI... it has autologon feature. Little eaiser then hacking Registry...

BTW I use standby without ANY problems. I have left in standby on for days without battery going dead. Puter starts instantly - shuts off in <3 seconds. It's perfect, in my opinion.
Power drain is minimal (< 1 watt?) .. just ram needs to be powered right? really similar to radio presets....

And just so you know, STR3 (if your motherboard supports it) needs to be set in Power Managment BIOS or standby will keep on fans...then standby is sort of useless.

Finally got round to removing the welcome screen and trying out hibernation.

AWSOME!!!! 20sec boot time on a EPIA M10000 from the press of the power button to XP ready for action.
Unfortunately it takes ages to go into hibernation (nearly a minute). Does anyone else have this problem. I don't see it as beeing too much of a problem, boot speed is more important. Right?

Hibernate will go a lot faster if you take out some ram.. I have 512 in there, but really ought to be using about 256MB.. It would be a significatn speed boost.. Even thinking seriously about 128MB.. :-/ Maybe i'll just use 256 and assign a boatload of ram to the video card..

Thats what i thought. I have 512MB of RAM. But i went for a lot of RAM so i could eliminate the paging file (virtual memory) and also put the vga shared memory to max (64MB i think). I might put less in because i'm probably going to put in a PCI Geforce4 MX card and possibly my old SB Audigy (awsome card).

Does anyone know where to get a EPIA-M compatible 2-Slot PCI riser card that points the slots back over the motherboard rather than away? (for compact desgin).

I didnt test it.. but what doi YOU think a stick of ram in suspend takes in power ... 1 amp @ 1.5 volts?? I Don't think so. More like 200 mA. Dont quote me on any of this . I'm sure there's some techincal sheet floating around somewhere.
I was simply trying to say that it has a very negligable effect on a normal sized car battery.

    AlienEclipse:

In my questing for 2-slot riser cards, the only thing I found was the Travala C137 case and the 2-slot reverse facing card to go with it.. It points the slots away from the motherboard.

However, I do know there exist FLEXIBLE PCI extensions. You could use one of these plugged into the motherboard, and the riser card plugged into the other end and have room to flip it over and mount it whereever you need. People use them to install network cards in the DirecTiVo's...

Here is a link to a product page with all kinds of PCI risers. You could get a flex cable from them and use another 2 slot Mini-ITX compatible riser card. The other neat product that they have is a 3 slot riser with built in PCI/PCI bridge. This sort of thing is the only way to get more than 2 slots out of Mini-ITX but it CAN BE DONE!

    mrgerbik:
RAM is fully powered during suspend. It depends a lot on the type/size of the DIMM module as to how much power it requires, but yes, it's not horribly much..

Yeah, but any fans or stuff like that would still be powered during stand by.

Gork, What about the RC2-019 on that page? It looks like it plugs into a PCI slot, and allows you to plug in 3 PCI devices into it. Using that, I could have a PCI FM tuner card, AND a PCI Audigy 2 card in the M10000's 1 PCI slot?
