    XP Lockout Software?

    Hi!
I was just reading my states legislative update and discovered a brand new bill that was passed to become effective on the first of this month. Apparently all video display devices, within view of the driver are now illegal. Unless you can prove conclusively that the display is for "exclusive" use of a GPS device only, not in addition to, or you are using this display device in a commercial vehicle (read that as higher tax rate) you are breaking the law. I was wondering if anyone ever conceived of the idea to create a small executable that would in effect lock out all system access except for the GPS module. I was thinking that only the GPS should function once triggered. Maybe it would even remove the little minimize and close buttons on the corners of the windows? Anybody have any ideas along these lines?

How are they going to legalize the new cars with Video based rear view system and GPS and CD player and such in one single unit? LS430 comes to mind on top of my head. Give it a couple of years, they will change their mind. Most of the people writing such stuff are often times morons and have no idea what technology can do to improve our lives.

Ahh. We could start a whole thread on useless and stupid laws. Like how in Massachusetts you cannot legally cross Boston common without a shotgun because a bear might attack.

In reality this will probably be a law you could easily fight or won't be enforced. It might also be a secondary offence (one you can't be pulled over for.)

If I get pulled over I have my keyboard stashed in my dashboard and Copilot full screen. A cop wouldn’t have any way to switch tasks to a different program.

Make it look like it is fully stock and it belong there. One of the reasons why I dont like LCDs that flip out is becasue they look like they are out of place and that none of them can fit in my car. If it looks like stock, most cops will assume it's stock.

Can you imagine me cutting up my car, fitting the screen and then having the police insist that I remove it?

I can hide the laptop, hide the keyboard and I asked one of the programmers where I work to whip up a window with hidden hotkeys that overlays everything and will display the GPS program only, including the command of "where am i" onto the display with one push of one button. By pressing the hidden hot keys in a particular order, it will resume regular winblows operation.

I know this is all a grand bluff, I'm even considering glueing a cheap radio face plate to the front of the pull out monitor and powering it so it looks like a functioning radio. Camouflage, sorta'

I do not want to remove all this work I've done!

That's a little extreme if you ask me.
