    new app linux/windows

some of you may know i'm doing an app in python. Well here is the code for both linux and windows

    windows
    http://www.zcentric.com/~mike/mediaZ.zip
edit the config.ini file and run main.exe and you are good to go

    linux
    http://homer.meso.com/crap/mediaZ.tar.gz
read the INSTALL.txt file and make sure all those libraries are installed. Then edit config.py and run python main.py

Heh.. i really don't expect many people to try this on the linux end or even on the windows end but i'll keep on coding. I actually like doing this project. I plan on making a one download solution for linux so you just extract and run and try to include all the libraries in the same zip file. That might bring the file size to around 15 megs.

In the long run this will just be a linux app and i'm gonna work my butt off to try to keep windows working just like linux. It all comes down to how well winlirc is just like lirc. Since mplayer is ported to w32 thats a big step.

My main goal is to get a nice app and also create a linux distro around that. So you can have windows installed and use a liveCD and in 10-15 seconds be playing music without having to load windows. My wardrive distro boots in 10 seconds and XP on the same machine is around 40.

I'm sure there are a ton of bugs. Its pre-alpha and this release just plays music files. So let me know if there are any problems or issues on this thread or email or AIM

click on the playlist. Also make sure you edited your config.ini or config.py and set the mp3_loc to the full path to your media files

Sorry about that.....it's Monday I got my brain fried at work...dohhh

I like the color and setup, keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Now if you could only make a driver like that for the VIA M9000, were you could just dial in the screen size????

    linux app preview (windows too)

    there are three screenshots there

I still have to do a lot of error checking, as you found out if it can't find the dir you set for mp3_loc then it just quits.. not good on my part

I tried it on gentoo linux 1.4 - even when i setup a correct path i get "Illegal Instruction" printed to console and the app dies. i tried to debug it, but i only got so far to tell that it crashes right after it scanned the directory. maybe some display routine is behaving wrong? I commented some lines that made it die too, so maybe it's a misbehaving SDL or something.

looking at your source i saw that you are working on a INI-file reader - you might want to take a look at http://www.python.org/doc/current/li...figParser.html a standard class of Python to read windows-INI style files, including subsections and all other stuff - works very nice.
