Pre-preview of the app I'm working on.. "OneStop"

Well, here's a little prealpha preview of the suite I'm working on.. At this point, it's not much more than some behind-the-scenes framework and the minimal GUI you see here.. short of another window you can pop up to browse your WMP Media Library..

I just wanted to post a screenshot to get some feedback on the functional ideas I have (Please do not comment about how ugly it is -- I know how ugly it is.. it's temporary artwork )

This is (tentatively) the look that the video player will take. All the component screens such as the DVD player, video player, FM tuner, TV tuner, etc will have slightly different toolbar layouts and possibly a different top bar. The panels auto hide in the video player after 3s.

The GUI elements are all Macromedia Flash. It gives me a lot of flexibility with how I can make things look and work, plus the rendering is a lot faster than VB trying to do the same kinds of things.. The interesting thing here is that I took this screenshot at 800x600, but resized it into 16:9 aspect ratio to show you guys how it looks on the actual screen.. Flash gives the ability to cleanly scale all UI elements including text to suit the aspect ratio under any resolution. This has been my primary gripe with some of the other players out there.. I like to run my 16:9 screen at 800x600 and UI elements look like ovals and the text lines are vertically compressed and hard to read.. This should solve that problem once and for all!

Initially, when I did AiPC, I included a volume control tab. Since I got the Griffin Powermate, I removed it. IMO, the screen would look a lot cleaner. Your mockup already looks impressive as we speak.

If it's stuck, force it. If it breaks it needed replacing anyway

I have volume control on my steering wheel, but I still want one on the screen so the passenger can adjust it.

The knob interface is actually pretty neat to use on the touchscreen. I was thinking of having a popup slider instead but then I used the knob. You can set it so you have to crank it around a few times to get to full volume. It's definately a different kind of interface.

I like brushed aluminum.. (Obviously; my car's dash is full of it!) I think the final product will use it, but as I said it's still a mockup for now.. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

PTCrusier: Is that a winamp skin or something else you are working on? Looks pretty good, though not my taste for in-car...
