    Divx movies really dark.....??

Hello, this may be a noob question, but I have a few divx movies that, when played, are really dark. Winamp and WinDVD both play them dark, can't hardly see anything. Plays dark in WMP, but I can change the brightness to the point that I can see them to near original brightness. Is this normal?? Is there a way to set the brightness up so that It will play them at a certain level at all times, or do I have to change the brightness each time?? (Real pain - i prefer 'point->click' play). What about some of the software here, ME, etc?? What does it do?? I don't think it would work on a small 7" touchscreen to adjust the brightness and contrast of each movie while in the car just to watch a movie (passengers). Any ideas?? what propgram does the ME software use for each media?? (wmp, winamp, own....)

    Thanks for your help
    Ryan

There isn't anything you can do about these movies. They were just poorly encoded. You'll have to keep turning up the brightness.

so when i want to encode movies from DVD, I don't really care about the size, but want to store on HD, so I can play in the car. I don't need it to fit onto a CD, so anywhere from 1-2gb is fine for me, better quality, i would hope. What is a better codec/settings for this then?????
    any idea?
    Thanks

i think you could find a lot of useful info there. Also, if I'm not mistaken, even backing up your own DVDs is illegal (some kind of millenium act, am I wrong?). So let's stick to the legal ( ) portion of dvd ripping (say you wanna rip a dvd with video clips you paid for), so if you just go there you'll find some software that will allow you to do all that.

btw, here's what I think about this millenium digital crap:

You wanna here what the stupid part is ?

Backing up a dvd you own = legal (Fair Use Laws)
breaking css encryption on the dvd = illegal (DMCA)

end result = illegal unless dvd not encryted

so that makes ripping ANY encripted dvd illegal... even "better", not only movies.
    I "love" these driven_by_greed lawes...
