    loudness ? simulate it ?

    hello , quick question.

Ordinary carradio's have LOUDNESS control , so that on LOW volume the BASS is bigger . How do you guess implement it to your'e project?

i think this feature is a MUST.

    TIA

Get a proper sub instead, loudness is only used if you don't have proper speaker setup in your car.

Actually, Bond is right. Loudness is for low volumes, not improper speaker setup. And most decent decks that don't have a loudness button have automatic loudness control. As for implementing it in software though, I think it will be determined by the drivers. The only sound card I ever had that did have loudness on it was a Pro Audiospectrum 16.

Search for Fletcher Munson on your favorite search engine. Google turns up quite a bit, mostly links to a chart of the curves. Loudness basically boosts low and high frequencies to counteract the ear's sensitivity to certain frequencies at certain volumes.

I personally use wow dsp plugin for winamp... helps quite a bit to spruce up the sound coming out of my computer into my amp

Sorry dopehead but that is def incorrect. I just noticed your user ID - thats too funny.

Loudness is used to compensate at low volumes. Usually loudness boosing tapers off as volume gets higher. I was also wanting a loudness curve with mediacar. I guess I could use an external processor, or even a SW package? I am not to fond of the WOW products - they seem to mess with the sound too much. Fine at first, but I prefer my sound as pure as possible (with the exception of loudness

It boosts the high and low frequencies when the sound volume is low. It lessens this boost when you crank the volume up.

Also, some headunits have a a variable loudness setting. EG. You could control how much is boosted the bass and treble.

This is one is the things I miss from having a headunitless setup.... I try and use EQ to replicate it but it's a pain cause I have to constantly fiddle with it at different volumes.

Anyone know of a winamp plug-in or something similar for loudness controls?

Edit: Whoever mentioned the fletcher-munson curves is correct... Loudness compensates for the way our ears work... Our ears natrually boost mid range frequencies (such as our voice) at when the sound is at lower volumes.
