Don't know why people knock WinME, but I never had any problems with it. Not back in the day before XP when I had as my main o/s, not now when it runs on my Pentium 233 w/ 64MB RAM tablet PC. Boots up pretty quickly, doesn't crash, supports USB (don't have to install drivers for external drives).

XP is great if the system is fast enough. Stable, configurable, looks decent (can be made better with WindowWasher, etc), wide support.

I run Linux on all my "wired PC's" (Wireing into network) and all my others (That can't easily be wired..) are running XP because there is no Broadcom 802.11g support. For my car, the reason it is using WinXP is twofold, because of 802.11g and because of ME. There is nothing like ME in Linux. And also because of CoPilot2003. If I could get CP2003 in Linux of any type, I would be on that in a second. Well, if you could get me 802.11g too. Once there is 802.11g, everything other then my car will be on Linux.

I'd use XP because for one Its what i know. (I hate to admit this but) its more stable than other windows versions. And theres more support out there for windows than linux. (meaning theres more avalible software) Thats just my opinion of course

I use win2k. XP gave me issues with my powermate, among other problems.
I know win2k best, so thats what I stick with.

Linux is to much trouble for me to deal with. Doing everything with command line is a PITA, and my system requires a custom kernel to make the IDE work. Also, like Sigma, I have a broadcom wireless G card in my system and linux doesn't support it.

Linux also doesn't have any good GPS software, and that was the entire reason I started my carcomp project.

I use Win98, I don't care what microsoft says, on my 1.3ghz athlon win98 boots faster than XP. Not to mention its been around long enough to where it is completely stable, XP crashes a lot, among other bugs.

Windows 98 still runs most any program out there, fastest most stable os and configurable.

StangBoyCIC - I want to get 98 on mine, I don't need to have XP, its just all I have. I don't know how to install 98, in fact. Its a bit diff, isn't it? Not just a single CD and you are good to go?
