Question Car-Computer Interface based on WinAmp

Media Engine apparently runs on windows media player. Are there any programs like Media Engine that use Winamp to play the mp3's? The "jump" funtion in winamp to search for songs in the current list of files on screen works really well. I didnt find that function in Media Engine, just a normal search for file function.

Working on that one myself right now my man!

Based on Winamp 2.x. Although it doesn't use the jump feature per se, as it's a bit of a bugger to program correctly, I do have a working search and play feature.

I think the mediaCar runs on winamp. I have yet to decide on the module for video/music for AIS/AiPC V2. I will most likely go with winamp for music and WMP for video. I may also go with GSPlayer for music. I like the size of that better and it does everything I need

"Although it doesn't use the jump feature per se"

I figured out the MediaCar is based on winamp too, but it also doesn't utilize the jump function.

The jump function is one of the best things about winamp. Wanna hear ur favorite song just us "J" and ur there. Someone has to include Jump in one of their interfaces.

Have you tried using the database in ME? Text search does the same thing as the jump function, and actually works better, as it will pull up files not currently loaded in your play list.

    edit.
Although, the way that winamp's jump function will show you all the matching files as you type is nice. Perhaps a ME feature request?

You know how when you start media engine for the first time it takes a long time to get ready? Thatís ME building its database. After that, every time ME starts up, it checks the file count of your media directory. If it's changed, then it rebuilds the database.

The database gets ID3 info and stores it. This means that all your mp3's need to be properly, and consistently tagged. If an MP3 has no ID3 tag, then it will make it's best guess based on the filename (I think it guesses by artist - track).

In the browse media section you should see a list labeled "search database" look in there.

I opened up a play list in ME, then hit play, then i pushed the little button to bring up the menu and then when to search database like u said, i went to the text search option, which is like the Jump function, it worked. But then when i clicked on the file to open it, my playlist changed from the one i had originally opened to the songs that were listed from the search of the one song. Instead of just playing it from the current playlist, or adding it to it.

The first playlist just dissapeared. Am i doing something wrong, or is there a way to stop this under some option menu?

Busting some hump to make just that happen. The Coca Cola company is in love with me, because as of starting this project, I am pretty sure I have financed their entire global operations in my purchases of their product all by myself. That and Little Ceasars. Or is that Caesars? Hmmm... God love pizza anyway: The Staple of Programmers Everywhere!
