How fast can restart from hibernation happen?

I've got my XP Pro down to around 18 seconds from button press to music playback when hibernated. It takes around 6 seconds to hibernate. This is on an AMD XP1800 system with 128 meg of PC 133 RAM. I don't care much about actual boot times since I almost never boot, I use hibernation about 90 % of the time. Restarting from XP (no programs running when I click restart, I time it until Meda Center 9.1 starts playback) takes around one minute and 6 seconds, and I haven't disabled a single service yet, but on the XP installation I had on the computer before, with all unnecessary services disabled, it took...1 minute and 16 seconds! :confused:

Anyway, are there any tips that may reduce that restart from hibernation time? Thanks in advance!

My M10000+XP comes out of hibernation in 20-25 seconds with no tweaking and that is fast enough for me....just enough time to let the turbo warm up :)

My EPIA m10000 with XP home comes out of hibernation to playing JRMC song in ~23sec. I've changed nothing from when it was installed. This is good enough for me.

My M1000 with 512mb ram and 8mb cache hard drive comes out of hibernate and fully seated in MediaCar playing music in 30 seconds, and from a cold start about a minute. I have not yet tried less ram, but I hear, and understand, that it would be faster. I consider it a catch 22 of sorts. 256mb would shut down quickly and restart fast because it is writing less and reading less, but I dont think in the real world there is a substitute for more ram.

Hi, Mike! :) OK, guys, maybe I was a bit to optimistic. I thought it should be possible to go lower. Anyway I have shaved a few seconds off, I'm down to 15-16 sec from hibernation and 4 seconds into hibernation...with Windows 2003! Surprisingly enough that's 10 seconds faster on a full boot as well. And that's before I have toyed around with bootvis. That'll be the order of the day tomorrow. Bootvising all day...

Quick question before I get started, what is windows 2003? (I've heard of 3.0,95,98,98se,2000, 2000 pro, ME, xp home, and xp pro...but not windows 2003??) I don't think I've heard of it...I'm a music teacher so I don't "live" in the techy world. Just play with it.

Usually I start from hibernate, which I get about 22 sec boots.

Anyway I had the question brought up to me how I obtained 30 cold boot in xp.
First off I have a pretty fast system for a car. (there is much faster though)
Faster hardward=fasterboots
1.3 celeron
256mg
fv25 shuttle motherboard. onboard video
AtA 100 40gig 7200 drive
disable the floppy seek in the bios
in your bios don't let it seek for drives on auto- select the drives so the comp doesn't have to look for them.

then once windows is up, disable floppy, network card, modems...or what everelse you are not using.

I'm sure I could speed things up even faster, but since I have a remote start, my car has been running for a good 2 mins anyway before I even see it, so things are already up and running when I get there.

Thanks, I was wondering about that start of yours. Anyway, it's really Windows Server 2003, but it's done with a guide to enable stuff you need and disable stuff you don't need, so it's more like a workstation than a server. And I meant that I'm 10 seconds faster on reboot than on XP, so it's somewhere around 55 seconds. But closing only takes 12 seconds, so there's still some time left to grab. Maybe the NIC takes a lot, though. And I need my wireless LAN since I control the PC partly with that. I will try with bootvis and getting rid of some services tomorrow. I'll let you know how it goes.

So what does bootvis actually do ? It said it doesn't change anything just gets you info on what is happening !? So what are you guys doing with the data from bootvis... and has anybody tried one of the Compact Flash adaptors to try and load XP or 2000 onto a 512mb card, and see if it loads faster ??

It DOES change things. It changes load order and such to maximize the benefits.
Microsoft issued a statement saying that it DOES NOT change anything because
they got tired of support requests.

Do all the menu items change things, or only the "optimize" or "configure" or whatever that option at the bottom of that menu is (I know very accurate, but I don't have it in front of me right now :D )

And is there a point of diminished return, at which it just keeps one shuffeling two apps back and forth ? And how long does that usually take ?? (How many tries)
