I'm also a Linux user, I am currently developing a complete solution.
I don't need no stinkin' startup-shutdown controller... That's what journalized filesystems are for...

    Linux

I am a very happy linux user. Last year I built my own linux distobution for the car and had it booting under twenty seconds working great. I have since removed the computer from the car to continue development (it goes real slow when you are at college). Hopefully in the next year I will have a complete linux solution using DirectFB and fluxbox. This should further remove bloat and speed up the boot process along with kernel-2.6.

As far as I am concerned linux is the best solution for the car, but that is just the linux lover in me.
