media center isn't great for a carpc, but it you have a htpc its awesome for that. I tried if for a couple days in the car but just plain xp with mp3car or mediaengine works great
what they said. im running it on my car pc but i just use media car.
how did you guys get it? i search for it and couldnt find a place to get it at
You can't buy only the software. You can either get a PC that comes with it or from the MSDN site (if you have an OS membership).

If you are using the TV capture part then it requires specific hardware but even that is easy to come by. I don't do any PVR stuff in my car so no biggie there. It will support pretty much what ever Win XP supports. I think the benefits are it does what I want it to in one app with no issues, it looks cool, has animated menus, blah blah blah. BUT I wish it was skinable as it is not. The only other things I wish it did was play .MOV files and had a little easier interface for toouch screens as the Vol control is a little small. No, the MSDN version is not limited and yes it does require activation if it is to be used legally.
What was your impression of the handwritting reconziation on a touch screen of you have tried it. I am in the process if writing a carpc program using some handwriting features of the tabletpc OS.Originally Posted by forum
The tablepc version of XP is the same as XP Professional except it has the speech and handwritting reconization engine built in. In *theory* you should be able to D/L the TabletPC 1.5 SDK (11Mb) and the TRPSetup.exe (222Mb) from micorosft site. The SDK will install fine, but the other one will contains the actual engines which will fail to install on a standard xp pro install. You could extract the needed files from the cabs and use it that way. Like I said in theory this should work, I haven't tried it.Originally Posted by ukchris
I do have the MSDN version and I enjoy it, I am in the process of writing a carpc program which utilies the handwriting for maps routes (gps), email, fax, Web Browser (write in the url). Because it is just another application on top of XP Pro you can use any hardware you like. I would like to think of a neg but cant.
