I started off with 02 and upgraded to 04, but had to reformat my HD and I'm back to 02. Since I don't use it I didn't see any reason to throw in the upgrade. From what I see it's XP Pro with some added features. When $$$ are available I'm going to build a HTPC next and I'll probably use it then.

Besides the mentioned video error it doesn't play Divx files even though it shows a thumbnail of the video. I get the error "Video cannot be viewed in Media Center from a Remote Desktop Connection." Problem is I'm not using a RDC.

    BTW I don't believe I mentioned how I got a copy

The most likely reason the EBay shut that down is that from the looks of the image, he was selling OEM editions (which I believe is the only way to get XPMCE), which is in direct violation of MS' policies. OEM editions, if possible to sell separately from a computer are to be sold ONLY by MS-approved resellers, and then ONLY with the purchase of retail hardware. Although, at our store we tell customers they only really need to buy a mousepad or something to qualify for the OEM pricing. MS doesn't check on that stuff too thoroughly.

Selling those versions in public without the prerequisite hardware purchase is something that could get EBay nailed hard to the wall if MS ever discovered it.

Also, if he is only including one disk you won't get the whole thing. It's two CD's plus one more for 2004.

Also, TimmyM, I never get the TV error you are talking about and I also don't have a TV card. Odd...

Do you get the Remote Desktop Connection error? Keep in mind, I currently have the 02 version not 04. And the actual error is "Your video card or drivers are not compatible with Media Center". Guess that has nothing to do with TV card at all now that I've looked at it. I'm using the onboard video which, I think, uses only 4 megs of the system ram so I guess I understand the error. If and when I get around to building the HTPC I'll most likely have a different video card.

Ahh. That would be your peoblem with the video card. I think WMCE requires a 16Meg card minimum. I'm just using a Radeon 7500 (soon to be 8500DV AIW) with the latest drivers.

Where did you get it, kicker?

I looked at the feedback for the seller. It looks like this guy's son was using daddy's account to sell illegal software!
