Do you plan on turning that into a VCD/DVD?
I need a simple program that will convert my 1gig+ .avi files to .mpg
I've looked but i cannot find. I found one but it was only a 'trial' program so i could only convert 1minutes worth.
Any helpful links??

Staus: Done.. too lazy to make pictures lol.
Basically what i've done is captured ~3minute music clips from the tv card. The only problem is that they copy in .avi file format and are about 1.5gig in size! I'm hoping if i convert these files to .mpg it'll reduce them to a more sensible 150mb or there abouts.
Divx or Xvid

TMPGEnc is great if you want to make an MPEG 1/2. However what his problem is that his original file is uncompressed. This is not a characteristic of an AVI. AVI is basically a storage standard for Audio and Video Interleaves. To get the best size-to-quality ratio you will want to re-encode the video in either DivX or XviD.
DivX and XviD are both MPEG 4 codecs. VCD are MPEG 1 and DVDs and SVCDs are MPEG2. You wont be able to use TMPGEnc to do a DivX or XviD encoding. I would reccomend using VirtualDub(www.virtualdub.org). Also visit www.doom9.net and www.vcdhelp.com for lots of encoding and decoding information as well as links to everything mentioned above.
Also to shave a few extra bits and bytes off that you will also want to re-encode the video into MP3 or OGG. MP3 may be a better choice because its a wider standard.
Good luck, let us know if you need anything else.

Does Dr.DivX take AVI as input? I'd almost given up on creating DivX movies until I found Dr DivX, it was just all way too involved. Dr DivX works a treat.Originally Posted by frodobaggins

Chris.
Thanks for all your help so far.
I've downloaded and tried to use Vidomi, but 2 problems prevail. 1: Mediacar will not read DivX format, so need to convert to mpg, 2: Every time i tried to convert the file, it only converts the sound (no image)?!?
