    Cool Alternate Shells

    Wondering if anyone had thought of this before...

    windows uses the explorer shell... ugly grey boxes i know...
    this is where litestep comes in

    its a replacement shell for windows. not only does it change the look of windows, but also how it operates and its alllll customizable! you can have menu's, ticker information, colorschemes etc that suit your car.

    its all open source, but there is a little bit of a learning curve.

    another benefit is that it is very small, it uses hardly any ram, yet u can still use alll the windows apps and games that you enjoy. pretty much you can use a standard 9.x or xp2000 system without having to cut it down due to the fact it uses so little system resources.

    look at www.litestep.net to see some themes that others have made.

    btw it can be made resolution independent, going from 640 to 1600 shouldnt be a problem for some themes, though i recommend making your own.

    sorry if people have thought of this before. i've been using litestep for years now and have just about done my carputer theme (even though i have no carputer yet)

    peace.

    @distortion:

    Do you also implement an audio section in your theme? I´m asking this because I would like to create a LS Theme for my car-pc. But I have no idea how to realize an "audio player" in LiteStep. Particularly the selection of Albums/Folders/Files...
    So, I´m very interested in the modules you are using.

    havent got that far yet... im using winamp 5 with a different color scheme (chrome and red) for that...

    had some set backs with the theme for litestep, all looks good at 1024 but looks bad at 800x600

    i do know that litestep can do a full featured mp3 player with modules, have a look on shellfront.com or litestep.net
