So far, absolutely no problems. The firewall works well. Best of all, I see a definite improvement in overall speed.
Someone one the board showed me
XP sp2 rc1 is up for download.
I am planning to install it to get rid of
my USB (2.0) problems.
Did anyone try it? Tips?
Michael

Hmm.. improvement in speed? I haven't noticed that. Things seem to take longer. Shutdown time seems to have gone up for me.
And StyleXP doesn't work (until they put out the newest release). They say it'll be out shortly though.
Otherwise I like it. It's got a few nice new features. It seems there's really not a lot for us Power-users though. I don't need pop-up blocking, and I use a hardware firewall, so it's not a huge change.
Anyway, it installed fairly smoothly. No big problems for me.

Okay, one other thing. MSN Messenger used to let me check my Hotmail account when I right-clicked and hit the "Check Mail" or whatever. Now it opens my Netscape (POP) mail. There doesn't seem to be a quick way to get to Hotmail anymore.

All the notifications that you don't have antivirus or firewall and to turn on automatic updates is really annoying, good thing they let you turn it off right away.
I had a problem after installing SP2RC1.
I tried playing UT2003 with my GeForce FX 5200. Got a hard-lock blue screen. After several reboots, I ended up downloading the latest drivers from nVidia, works fine now, as it did before installing SP2RC1.
not to start a flame war.. but why install a release canidate anyway? i always wait a few days to do cause MS is notorious for bad patches and or break things

It's good to test it doesn't screw up any of your apps.
Of course you try it on a test machine first.![]()
XP sp1 has notorious usb problems.Originally Posted by hijinks21
In my case it doesn't recognise the gps after hibernation/reboot.
It freezes when attaching usb 2.0 devices or recognizes them as usb 1.1.
sp2 is said to solve this
And why wait? As if MS is not notorious for sp1.

My next generation Front End is right on schedule.
It will be done sometime in the next generation.

I'm afraid to install the sp2 because of all the garbage that will come with it. Few features that i want to have, but too much other stuff i will never use. And somehow i doubt that it will help my performance.
