disable unneeded peripherals

has anyone written a script that disables unneded usb extras and the sort to keep the computer from discharging the battery slower? maybe an icon in mediacar or mediaengine that disables everything (cd drive, usb peripherals, etc) except the wireless internet card, cpu, ram and hard drive? that would make a lot of sense instead of disabling everything manually every time you left the car. you still could transfer files to the car, but just leave the bare essentials.

Whats wrong with just going to the device manager and manually disabling the unused devices once and for all? It's easy to get them back if you need them...

Plus i would recommend disabling a lot of onboard hardware right from bios, it will decrease your post and boot times significantly (at least for me it did). Disable onboard lan/firewire/2nd IDE channel/etc.

i don't think you're getting the point i'm trying to make. i want to disable the unnecessary things when you EXIT the car, not the things you don't need period. i have an xm-pcr that doesn't need to be running to drain the battery if the car isn't on with nobody in it, but i'm too lazy to go out to the car to turn it on when i transfer files, and i'm too spoiled as i want this to give me better battery life/computer "on time."
