RFC: new car pc app (sanity check ?!) :)
Did a proof of concept hta (html application) to see how my car app would look like. I have used Macromedia tools to do the graphics and embedded a WMP control and another free winamp control that was working with an older version of winamp.
Things look good so I want to take this a bit further and start with building a VB app that will load mht (web archive) files as skins. That is to say that you should be able to create a nice web ui with buttons some macromedia flash etc etc save it as an mht and then load that mht into a VB form using the IE control. There are ways of capturing the links pressed within that control and accessing the rest of the document from within the IE control (list of links, pictures, layers, sizes etc).
Given a placeholder image in the mht I can then figure out the location where the WMP control needs to be overlayed or for that matter any other application that can be run within a picturebox.
This will allow anyone to create a fully customizable skin and with the help of a config file assign a variety of actions to the "buttons" in the UI.
Does this sound like a doable idea !? Do you see any gotchas that I might be missing ?! Technical feedback from all you MS coders out there as well as other comments or concerns are appreciated.
