    Routis/Linux

Not sure if anyone cares, but I got Routis to work fine under Linux using wine! I didnt have the GPS connected to the machine, so its not a very thorough test, but the menus/dialogs/maps etc work fine.

Someone was writing one, Qt based, using MC skins etc, but I cannot recall the details.

I dont know if anyone has thought/tried this, but there is a web interface into either xmms or winamp, I wonder if a simple web based front end has even been tried? It certainly easy to build the GUI that way and would be portable.

I only played with routis/wine because I was waiting for a long compile. Next build I'll plug in the GPS and see what happens!

Cool, yea a simple HTML front end would be sweet, and really easy to customize. I really like linux, just not great with it, don't know how to make a certain program my "shell"/GUI. If there was a car PC inteface like KDE or GNOME, that would be even sweeter.

we are developing xcar.. its slow but steady.. when we release it we will also package it in a distro you can install.. then dump all your media to and then you are ready to go.

I'm planning on using linux in my car PC setup. Still have time to plan everything out though. I should be getting in my motherboard (epia M-1000) today and will start to work on the software side of it while I save to get all the other parts and plan the layout in my car. Fitting a slim DVD/CD-RW, Xenarc 7" TSV, Alpine HU, and 20x2 lcd into the dash of a 2002 camaro is becoming a difficult task (planning)... but I know it can be done.

Still have some bumps to figure out but if routis works in wine then you just solved one of them thanks!

    That was me.
    Destinator and Mappoint in Linux/Wine

But I've since abandoned Qt since my intention was to have create a portable version that works in Windows as well, and it turns out you have to pay for the windows version of Qt. I've also tried out wxWindows, but I'm not too happy with that either... Given that xcar is making progress and I have very little time outside of work, I may just wait for that instead.
