There should be an mp3 player/interface that automatically makes a list of all the artists in your collection/directory...then you can just use the touchscreen to touch a dropdown box and then scroll through the artists and touch one of the names to get all your songs for an artists

would be faster than trying to scroll through 10,000 songs to get to your songs

Not unless you have 2000 distinct artists too. All of the models I have seen so far for UI of very large song collections are impractical. I haven't got any better ideas though

I thought of one, but think it would be way hard to program and im not conviced it would be good.

A list of X-thousand entries is worthless, X-hundred, maybe.

    So anyone have any ideas?

    My idea was this...

    - buttons to control the mode, artist, song, mood, period etc
    - pick a handful of songs as random, say 10
    - user clicks one that sort of reflects what they are after, or clicks, refresh to get another 10
    - repeat, presenting the next batch with some link back to the previous, something like a spider diagram.
    - user keeps repeating until they have found the song/tracl/album/mood/period etc, then they click OK and a playlist is generated that matches the query just written using the GUI...

Mobile Media Center does this as well. Like Mobileh1 said though, trying to make this even better yet is not easy. We are working hard on UI features that will make it easy to browse for music.
