How many are making custom software?

Alright, I've been noticing that a lot of people are making their own car computer software. I just wanted to get a general idea of how many people are making their own and who they are .

Here are a few questions you might can answer...don't have to answer them all

    What is it called?
    Why are you doing it?
What kind of features might it have that others don't?
How long have you been working on it?
Are you gonna release it to the public?
Are you going to release the source?
How far along are you on it?
    Skinnable?
    What language is it in?
CarPC install is starting to come along again...

    1. ACENDS (Automotive Computer Entertainment Navigation Diagnostic System)
    2. None of the other programs make the buttons big and bright enough for my old eyes to see/use. My interface maximizes button size, positive interaction (so I know that I hit it), selectable back-and foreground colors/brightness.
    3. Fuel log, otherwise standard mp3, radio, gps routing, embedded Routis, obd2 not complete yet.
    4. 6 months
    5. It does what I want, but is constantly changing and it's probably not what you want.
    6. Not unless somebody needs something. It's pretty standard stuff.
    7. 75% but see #5.
    8. No
    9. VB6

This is the details of the application that both myself and Danceheaven are working on:

    1. AIMEE (Automotive Intelligent Multimedia Entertainment Engine)
    2. Why not. Plus I want some things to happen my way.
    3. DAB (i've figured it out now, just need to implement it), multiple sound/video card support (ie you listen to music/GPS over car speakers and the kids watch Finding Nemo in the back via headphones)
    4. About 5 weeks
    5. Yup, certainly am
    6. Possibly
    7. About 10-15% to put a figure on it.
    8. Yes, of course.

    1) CarPC (what a lame name, eh?)
    2) Big buttons.
    3) Does very basic mp3 playing, GPS and OBDII. No flashy distracting stuff.
    4) Uses embedded linux, entire distribution less than 4 MB.
    5) No hard drive, boots from CompactFlash.
    6) Programmed in C -> no dependency hell while setting up the system.

Why are you doing it? Nothing else available at the time (with reasonable sound quality).
What kind of features might it have that others don't? DOS based, precompiled binary play list for fast load, caches 2 songs and shuts hard drive down.
How long have you been working on it? Nearly 5 years (on and off).
Are you gonna release it to the public? Source code is on my site, has been for many years.
Are you going to release the source? Yes, see above.
How far along are you on it? Complete.
Skinnable? No, DOS based character LCD.
What language is it in? C (Watcom/dos4gpro C++ support isn't up to it).
Old Systems retired due to new car
New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
