Normalizing Sound Output for DiVX & MP3

This is more of a problem with my DiVX playback because the sound level going from movie to movie vaires so greatly as well as voices being very low and action scenes very loud. Is there any piece of software that will normalize the output to a constant level?

Is there a prefered way to deal with this issue?

    Thanks

As far as "normalizing" the sound from one mp3 to another mp3 there's a nice little prog called Mp3Gain someone on these boards pointed out.(may have been Frodo don't remember) The movies are another problem as it sounds like you want to use some kind of dynamic compresion tokeep the loud parts of the movie from being overpowering. I know some home theater receivers have this function though its name varies by brand its often referred to as a night or sleep mode(I guess its so you don,t wake the old hag!)
    Sorry I cant help more

The problem here is that the ac3 filter will only affect AVI's using the AC3 codec. You can do this by increasing the master/gain levels in the AC3 control panel. If you have surround sound, you can unlock the BFE and adjust the individual channels. Even though you have a laptop lol, just thought I would let you know anyways.
