Basically, if you're certified by Microsoft (MCSE, MCDBA, etc.), you get the copies of all the products that pertain to your certification.
If you work in a shop that's a MS certified business parter, then the shop gets ALL their software (including betas) free.
It's primarily for testing, development, etc.
But some of make personal use of the software...![]()

I recommend NOT going with any "server" if you want faster boot times.
Doesn't matter if it 2k server er 2k3 .. I refer to them as "the tanks" of MS OS s... they might take a lil while to get up and running, but it takes a lot more to bring them down/slow them down.
....throw that out the windwo in the case of a car PC ...it will be up and down all the time.

Please do not take it personally, but that entire statement is incorrect.Originally Posted by DarquePervert
You DO NOT get anything for free when you acheive MS certification levels.
MSDN - MicroSoft Developers Network.
It is a "package" that your company (or you) can subscribe to, and it gives you access to all MS products - in the name of developing software for it.
E.G. - You have a software company, you are developing a new version and you want to see if it will work with Windows XP Tablet Edition.
If you have a MSDN accnt, you can install XP Tablet for testing.
It is still just as illegal to use these OSes as your full time OS.

BTW - I think im gonna go with XP Tablet - I would like to see if I could use a stylus on my touchscreen - maybe even use Windows journal for keeping notes and things of that nature
..not a final decision, just my thoughts as of now

Now that's a laugh.... I seriously doubt you will notice any difference in startup speed. And using Windows 2003 server will probably just make things harder because of all the default security oh and not to mention Server families didn't support power management last time I checked.Originally Posted by sagekoala

and I highly doubt that even after killin all the uneeded services you will see faster boot times.
finally - siberia37 brings up a very valid point ...no stand by, no hibernate...so you will be cold booting everytime
I cant tell ya how many times I had killed my battery -slammin the lid on my Win2k3 Server laptop thinking it would Hibernate![]()
