    Basically, if you're certified by Microsoft (MCSE, MCDBA, etc.), you get the copies of all the products that pertain to your certification.
    If you work in a shop that's a MS certified business parter, then the shop gets ALL their software (including betas) free.

    It's primarily for testing, development, etc.

    But some of make personal use of the software...
    Well, I don't agree with you... I'm a software consultant with 8+ years experience, I am MCSD and MCAD certified, but you don't get the software by becoming M$ certified. You can get the software *however* if you or your company has a MSDN Universal Subscription. It is possible to get *some* betas if you're certified, but the full products, no way!

    BTW, to get to the topic of the thread, I use Embedded XP. All you lamers, get your lazy *** out of your chair and start implementing XP embedded
    It really kicks ***! Startup (without even using hibernation) of 15 secs or even less. Do some extra tuning, add the ReadyOn tool, and you're looking at boot times below 10 sec!

    How do I know if I'm a lamer? I use DOS 6.2, and I'm very happy with my 5 second boot time (from end of post to music).
    Old Systems retired due to new car
    New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.

    This explains some, i think. do you play DivX's on your machine? I'm talking 'bout possible 8 seconds boot from 'push the button' to playing DivX video!

    And of course, I didn't mean 'Lamers' personally! I'm just wondering why Xp Embedded is not used so often for this type of hobby, it's a pretty obvious choice if you ask me. In the end, we would all be able to help eachother out with tips 'n tricks using XP Embedded and making our systems even more 'state of the art'...

    Well, because I got all the time in the world, you could start by reading through the msdn website and the newsgroups @ microsoft covering this thing. I have two books about this stuff, and they are very usefull. I'll check if they have some electronic version on the cd's that came with it..

    i get this for free also, should i choose it as apposed to winxp? are drivers capatable?
    52-hit-combo?! Is that really necessary?

    grrr

    @NUIpIsqo
    some people seem to have very stong opinions on the subect. Do you get xp for free as well, if so i would do your own little comparison and decide for yourself. If you look around the forums some people have great results with it. search around a little

    @siberia37
    yeah actually server 2k3 does

    @SuzukiAerio
    if you hate flame wars why did you start one. i simply stated my opinion. and if you reread my first post "some claim that it starts up a heck of a lot faster than XP. we'll see though." is it not through tweaking and changing random thing that we find out what works and what doesn't? The MSDN Academic Alliance (MSDNAA) DOES allow me to load any piece of microsoft software for my classwork or any personal projects. Should i be impressed that you have ran datacenter? so have i, i was an admin for a department who had a 128-way IBM. and you may want to check out the above link to fix that laptop thing or there is always power options in the control panel

    having said all of that, i feel much better now
    don't worry i know i usually don't make much sense
