I haven't really looked at it yet, but I found this on the Carnetix site:
Looking to get some software that when I fire up my carputer and it sees my wireless network's connected, it starts to sync automatically. What I do right now is just have like ms briefcase sync my stuff. I have the same music library on my home pc and carputer. If i download or rip new music to my desktop, i want it to automatically go to my carpc. Anybody know of any good free software?
I am using this http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp - it is a nice replicator with scripts/scheduler. I don't know about automatic update when connected though, maybe you need to write some script to do it for you.
I am using this also.Originally Posted by kingtut
I've set it up to sync every 5 minutes, so within 5 mins of pulling up at home, it will find the network and start syncing
Thanks alot you guys... I'll try it and see how it goes.
This may be a bit further down the technical trail than you'd like, but personally I use cygwin's version of rsync to sync over an ssh connection to my linux box. It's smart enough to only transfer parts of files that have changed, so if I update the id3 tags, it only resends the changed parts, not the whole file. It's pretty nice, and free.
I think filesync does exactly the same!!
But with one direction!!!
Don't think so... How would one computer know if a given part of a file has changed on another computer without actually sending the whole file over the network? That's what is special about rsync, it runs on both computers, and they chat about file hashes and various other fun things... And rsync is one-way as well, although you can make it do push, pull, or aggressive sync.
But again, if you don't already have a linux box serving your files, rsync is probably not the easiest solution.
You are right, filesync replaces the file!!!
