ok i have tried a few different linux os. 1 was suse linux personal 9.1 the other was mandrake 9.1 my mobo is a shuttle fv24. when i install the disk i can get to where it gives me the option of where i want it to read the boot disk on the linux gui. after that it instal the kernell and tehn it goes to a black backgrouns and it starts its process of unloading allt he sf in and it stops and says kernel panic:vfs: unable to mount root fs on unknow-block(0,5)?? any one wanna help. tia sam b.

ONE DAY I WILL LEARN HOW TO USE THE COMPUTER THE RIGHT WAY.
Try a LiveCD (eg Knoppix or some derivative there of) if you still get bad block errors it could be the HDD. Let me know how you go??

i just got a livecd from suse that a comp store had and still the same problem. any one know anyting that can guide me to the right place or want to lend a hand?
