    Traffic Gauge Service and Carputers

    Hello All,

I just saw an ad for this site/service on TV, and was intrigued by the website, http://www.trafficgauge.com/. Anyone know how they do that. Anyone think that we can adapt it to our Carputers?

    Here is some more info

    Thanx, BUT,

How does the traffic gauge connect to the service. Is it cellular. Is it 802.11. Is it from Radio Station subcarriers.

I think this can be integrated into one of the Software programs that are pooping up for use in our carputers. Yes, I could always connect to the net somehow, WHILE I AM DRIVING, to get the information, but if the signal is out there (The trafficgauge unit updates every 4 minutes) maybe we can receive that information from some source, and use it to our advantage, AUTOMATICALLY.

Just glanced at the patent (it says at the bottom of the page: 6,728,628) and it appears to use a radio signal (they probably have towers in the areas) so probably not anything someone could tap into easily. If anyone cares to read the patent in detail and explain more, it can be found here:

    Yeah, I have an idea.

I wrote a program to rip Yahoo maps so that my boss doesn't have to calculate distances for our milage compensation. We have an INI file that stores hundreds of our clients addresses, and this program will calculate the distances we drove all week just by entering the date we drove and the locations we went to and came from. But the real heart of the program is going locking the HTML code that yahoo's Maps page gives as a final result to the 2 locations. "<Blah blah blah code> = X amouth of Miles</Blah Blah Blah code>."

My point is that if you have constant internet in your car (as some people do especially now ATT offers unlimited internet for 50/mo. now) a program could rip the HTML like in my previous project and pull values. It then can insert markers (or some type of visual reference) on a map every hour or two. This is easy to achieve. It took me 4 days to get real values from Yahoo, and I'm willing to bet it would be far easier with Sigalert. I use VB to program, but if there's any C++ or other VB programmers that want to work on this, PM me and we can get started.
