I currently am
testing DriveSofts DFSL
software, and awaiting amanda. Right now I have to say that I use media engine because it seems to function the best for me. However, non of the available apps do a very good job of calling up MOST of my applications.
Since you just now starting this, I'd love a system that allows integrated "mixer" functions, but 32 point eq as well as an software crossover function for people with true High, Mids, Subwoofer functions. A "loudness" feature like a
head unit would be cool too. The media car mixer looked cool, but it nother more than the master and balance functions ever seemed to work for me, I could mess with the EQ and bass/treble all day long with no results. With that said, preset calls for the EQ settings right from the Mixer would be cool too.
All off the applications seriously lack in TV Tuner/ AUX A/V in functions. I guess there are probally too many brands out there, but from my experience, ALL of the better TV app programs (Intervideo WinDVR3+, ATI TV, even my Adobe Premier Pro, Cyberlink's WinVCR or whatever it was called) recognize what WDM capture drivers, even legacy capture devices and seem to work controlling these components A/V Composite, V svideo/Composite audio and "TV Tuner" devices without a hitch, yet each of the carputer shell's I've tried are Limited to WinTV or some specific
hardware piece. I may be the majority here, but I've got rear camera's, Playstation 2, and a few other composite A/V devices that I wish I could "push a button" and have AUX A/V input available.
XM controls native, since only XM makes XM, not sure why none of the other apps can control on top of the XMPCR drivers, Ya, Xtreme PCR works great, but its not "fat finger" touchscreen friendly, thats for sure. So far, the only decent XM interface I've seem is in the drivesoft software.
Heres another one, I have a
radio wireless internet modem (basically a PCMCIA modem) no real way to control the "internet" connection. Some sort of interface to the dialer, connection status
displays, network settings, etc, etc. I understand that not everyone has this, but it has been my experience that most of these devices use the standard minimized Tray "Telephone" "two computers with green screens" flashing to show they are connected, I know you should be able to interface with
windows to supply this information on a "internet" page.
Just my two cents.
