I've been wanting to try "Audrey" if my car CPU is fast enough to handle it gracefully.
Has anyone ever tried installing these voices (neospeech can be found at http://www.neospeech.com) on a mini itx system? They are very natural, sound much better than the default MS voices (and are SAPI5 compliant), but they can take up some resources. They are commonly used in the Home Automation world (I use them myself), but I am hoping someone else has already tried this so I don't have to bog down my machine if it isn't going to work. If no one else has tried this, I guess I will be the first one to do so. You can buy the voices at AutomatedOutlet.com in case anyone is interested, they are meant to be used with Homeseer, but are SAPI compliant, so should work with any program.

I'll be trying them tonight, memory is usually the main concern, I only have 256megs, so it might be a second delayed like my Home Automation server with the same memory config, but bumping it to 512meg might make this work assuming I don't run into problems with the cpu.
AIMEE uses them![]()

Guess I definitely will be installing them now, now stop teasing![]()
So can you download these somewhere, or do you have to buy something?
they have to be bought, but they can be found for a reasonable price at the store I mentioned earlier, or try google, but I know the guy that runs AutomatedOutlet.com personally and he does get the best pricing.
I just installed them, it sounds fantastic, I tried them with frodoplayer, sounds so much more realistic!
I use AT&T Crystal, I can't stand the default voices.Originally Posted by electron

It will be done sometime in the next generation.

cool, the Neospeech are the next generation voices, AT&T stopped selling them to consumers, they are targetting corporate users only now. Neospeech is even better in most cases, and uses less resources, so you might want to look at those too.
