    Nice to see some VB.Net stuff. I took an entry level VB.Net class last spring hoping to beable to customize some stuff, but didn't really learn as much as I thought I would. Since most of the VB programmers around here are using VB6 I didn't really try and hack anything together, but now I might start playing around again.

    Ok, for those of you new to programming and VB.net. When designing your applications think about creating an MDI application (Multiple Document Interface) Where you have one parent form with many child forms. This will eliminate a bunch of headaches.. Here's how to create Parent / Child relation Ships in .net

    Main form Properties-> isMDIcontainer = TRUE

    Sub createChild(byref Frm_Parent as FORM)

    dim child_form as new form2

    child_form.parent = frm_parent
    child.show()

    End if

    Just check out the WMP9/10 SDK - there are VB.NET examples and things to look at.

    But WMP is very simple to use - to play a file, just do this:

    Install WMP SDK; go to your toolbox -> add items -> then add the Windows Media Player control to your toolbox.

    Drag one onto your form.

    'wmpPlayer is the WMP that you've just dropped into form
    wmpPlayer.URL = "c:\mySong.mp3" ' or a wav or midi or anything else that WMP can play
    wmpPlayer.controls.Play()

    'to pause
    wmpPlayer.controls.Pause()

    'to stop
    wmpPlayer.controls.Stop()

    'volume (this is WMP volume, not system volume)
    wmpPlayer.settings.volume = 50 'values: 0-100

    'mute (again, WMP volume control, not system)
    wmpTemp.settings.mute = True

    Title = wmpTemp.currentMedia.name 'get media title
    FileURL = wmpTemp.currentMedia.sourceURL 'get media URL
    Artist = wmpTemp.currentMedia.getItemInfo("Artist") 'get any other kind of data in file
    Album = wmpTemp.currentMedia.getItemInfo("Album")

    Note: under VS.NET 2003, all the controls (play, pause, stop, etc.) are under wmpPlayer.Ctlcontrols -- e.g. wmpPlayer.Ctlcontrols.play()

    So that's basic operation - check out the SDK help and examples for more info on playlists, etc.

    Hope this helps
