Sorry to hear that. I have Google-ed for this before and found some methods. I think I put 'swap motherboard bios' in the search box. However, I have never actually used any of those methods. Knock on wood..

    Good luck.

You can probably buy a new bios chip and replace the bad one.

I remember that in the days just removing the battery was enough to clear it...

No, reseting the BIOS parameters by means of removing the battery wont work. The actual code on the chip is now corrupted so nothing can really help.

But if you are lucky there maybe a BIOS recovery mentioned in the manual, check that. I know some of the intel board have this BIOS recovery features.

I must have killed about 4 board from a failed BIOS update from 1,000 upgrade.

Sorry to say but normally it means dead motherboard...unless of course you are willing to unsolder the BIOS chip and refit a preprogrammed one. Its not easy unsoldering SMD parts so you may need to look into that before attempting it.

Some people gone into trouble getting the chip, solder in the new one just to find out it already got damaged due to solder heat.

Have you tried the warranty? They wont bother to investigate if the fail is due to BIOS upgrade. I have done this on a brand new toshiba laptop under warranty with a failed BIOS upgrade...they had to change the motherboard.

The bios chip doesn't have to be in the motherboard while it is running only when it boots up. The only way you can fix your bios is to get a working bios, of the same type, from another motherboard. Put this bios in your motherboard and boot up the machine. Once the machine is booted up, carefully remove the bios chip, while the computer is running. Then place your dead bios back into your motherboard. Now you have your motherboard booted up properly with your dead bios on the board. At this point you need to reflash your bios and then you are as good as new.
