    NES ROM Frontend

Does anyone know a good frontend for NES emulators? I have a bunch of roms but when I try to view them on my carputer or HTPC it's hard to see (moreso on my HTPC). It'd be nice to have a frontend that provided large text and a nice GUI.

    Anyone?

I think you should have a look at MAME compatiable nes emu's

There is a dos emu called rocknes and there is a mame version of it to.

What i mean is u can use a frontend to launch the game stright away and it uses the standard mame button config and all u do is hit esc and it will close down the emu.

It's made for arcade cabinets with the joysticks and buttons so no keyboard is needed.

You could make a frontend or get a mame frontend to launch the nes games

If u want more info im happy to help im at work so if u can't find the mame compatiable version of rocknes i'll get it off the home pc

I have nes snes genesis/mega drive and sms setup on my carpc for people to play with as i drive and i of course have mame 2

What do you use as the controlers for playing nes games on your computer, it would be a lot harder if you had to use a keyboard.

What iv got setup is 2 snes pads for the games hooked up to the pc.
At the game list the snes dpad's up and down scrolls up n down the games list and when u push start it loads up the game and u start playing.

If u hit select at the games menu it change system so say your on the NES menu if u hit select it swaps to the snes menu and the snes games list shows up.

Now u can select what system u want then what game.

Then when you are done i have a small button on the centre console at the back seat which quits the games and goes back to the games menu.

Now snes pad is perfect for snes nes sms and mame its also good for genesis/mega drive.

There are other emulators with the mame config which have been hacked or recompiled.

Now with the 2 snes pads

U can buy a USB adapter that will lett the snes pads connect to the PC but what i did was make my own cable and have it connect to the printer port.

I hope i answered some of your questions?

Also i hopefully plan to make the pads be used as a movie selector to so they can select what movie they like on the screen

I will have to make my own software for that so its ok

Well im gonna use my own frontend im gonna make but there are lots out there

I use Game launcher its a Dos and Windows frontend which uses the arrow keys or mouse to scrool up n down then button 1 for start.

There are specific versions of zsnes which uses mame config and lets u hit esc to exit the emu and go back to the menu

I have 2 arcade cabs setup with mame inside them and i use this

Its very simple it just sends a cmd line like:

    c:\games\zsnes\zsnes.exe smw

that will launch super mario world no menu or anything will pop up works like the orignal snes when u click your game its the same and pushing the on button just loads the game no menus no settings nothing.

What im gonna do is buy a 7" vga touch screen n run whatever fronend on it like nmc frodoplayer ammie etc.

then have the 7" composite LCD in the back which is on a seperate desktop which runs the Game menu which launches nes snes genesis/mega drive atari 2600 and a few other systems

also have it run movies off a list 2

i only have 1 screen for now but iv tested this and it works gonna have to set it up in the car sometime soon when i find money for the VGA LCD

    thats the site

Its cool cause when u scroll through the list it shows a background image of the game which helps if u dont know what game it is u get to see what it looks like its very well done but setting it up is all by editing files etc which i don't mind cause im use to it.

There is a tool that scans a rom dir and copys the games info and zip file name to make a games list
