    Question Is this possible?

I'm planning to use DOS for my OS due to fast boot time and such, but lately I've been kicking around the idea of getting a 4 or 5" TFT and a slot loading DVD-ROM. Is it possible to run a DVD player when using DOS. If so how?

I wouldn't THINK that is possible, well not easily any way, but who knows, write some software and it may be.

I can't remember that I have seen any Dos based DVD drivers or players.
But I guess you can run the DVD as a CD-Rom with standard atapi drivers and when you need the DVD boot into Windows where you have powerdvd (or similar program) as shell.

DOS would have to be the best platform ever to leave Microsofts shipping docks imho.

It's technically possible, but I don't know of any DOS DVD playing programs, or if the standard DOS ATAPI interface can read dvd style. I'd say you'll likely have to write your own DVD playing software.........

If you buy 98Lite I think it comes with and option to run Windows 98 straight from the command line (no GUI) Maybe there's a good middle ground for DOS and DVD?

Falcon, you can actually get win95, and win98 to boot straight into dos mode (no gui) just edit the msdos.sys file. It has an option BootGUI=1 , just change that to 0.

But doesn't that just stop short of loading the OS, leaving him where he started - in DOS, with no DVD drivers loaded???
