instant boot is just a marketing term they used for, "it boots really really fast". And yes, it does boot really really fast. At least that's my understanding.

I heard that is possible to boot instantly (well, really, really fast) into windows me with a bios patch... and I'm not talking about hibernation.
Any one heard about this or is this complete bs?

It boots faster than 2k or 98 (slightly)
But it shuts down in about 2 seconds.

I run 2k on my home machine and let me tell ya, it's a mother of a booter. It takes me at least a minute and a half to load up windows. Windows ME takes me about 30 seconds on a proper bootup (when I"m not using hibernation).

Ya, I'm running windows me on my "test" desktop and bootup and shutdown times are a lot better. But I read this as an instant boot. Not just really fast.
I'll see if I can remember where I read it...

If you tweak your BIOS a bit (like not letting it try to detect non-existant drives), clean your registry, and lower the ammount of boot up programs, WinME is really fast.
On my P3 667 CarPC, My machine is up and playing music in about 30 secs. I have a 1.1 gig Tbird in the house, and I'm surfin the net in less than 10 seconds after hitting the power button...
i remember reading once about a guy with a carpc setrup and he ran 2 hard drives: one small 500-1gig hard drive with just windows on it, and a larger drive for all the mp3s and other good stuff. I dont remeber what the logic was behind this netting faster boot times but that is what this guy claimed.

Wow, thats a pretty intense carPC! That must be nice for booting unfortunately some of us only have cyrix 200+'s with 32 ram. =)

Would 2 drives help the boot time? I got one 580MB just laying around not doing anything at all. And every little helps.
