Post What time is it? Check this out!

Discovered this nice Talking Clock from Fonix. It is called Timetalk for PC. It is a free download to demonstrate the capabilities of this companies text to speech capabilitied built on Microsofts Speech SDK 5.

It will call out the time in a female voice when you choose. You can also set an alarm. It sits in your system tray. The web site is:

Let me know what you think.

    Cool

One thing to note is that the MS Speech SDK will not play if something else is using the audio card (such as an MP3 player). At least it won't on any of my systems...
Player: Pentium 166MMX, Amptron 598LMR MB w/onboard Sound, Video, LAN, 10.2 Gig Fujitsu Laptop HD, Arise 865 DC-DC Converter, Lexan Case, Custom Software w/Voice Interface, MS Access Based Playlists
Car: 1986 Mazda RX-7 Turbo (highly modded), 1978 RX-7 Beater (Dead, parting out), 2001 Honda Insight
"If one more body-kitted, cut-spring-lowered, farty-exhausted Civic revs on me at an intersection, I swear I'm going to get out of my car and cram their ridiculous double-decker aluminium wing firmly up their rump."

Aaron, what kinds of sound cards do you have? You seem like you'd know if your coundcard couldn't handle multiple output streams, but it's worth asking about.

I had an old soundblaster 8 that wouldn't play any sound if winamp was playing. But I upgraded my soundcard and suddenly all this other sound was interrupting my music (but in a good way, i guess).

You sure it's not that your coundcards just can't handle multiple streams? I've never used the speech SDK but it just seems like a setup issue to me.

At least with every soundcard i've used that's DirectX compatable:
set every software program you can to use DirectX output. This allows you to combine sounds, whether or not your sound card supports it, because it is done in software. However, if the sounds you want to mix are not all DirectX, then this probably won't work. Some cards seem to have weird abilities, like playing a DirectX and non-DirectX stream at once, but not 2 of one kind. Anyways, might be worth a shot since i know winamp will play into directx. make sure that whatever option talking about cooperativism is set to the most cooperative setting.
Mp3car setup on the way... it's gonna run like this:
5" TFT LCD running out of a 32 MB 4x AGP GeForce 256, on a 667 MHz Celeron and a 4.3GB Hard Drive, running linux and probably MS98 solely for the purposes of Diablo II.
Also a playstation 1, and my stereo:
    2 Rockford Fosgate 360a2 (1 punch, 1 power) running 4 10" subs.
1 RF punch 120a2 running 2 Jensen 6x9s in boxes
Custom box (it looks cool. pics someday)
    4 ga. & 8 ga. power
10 ga. speaker wire all around
    16' RF shielded RCA
    Pioneer 1100DEH (until I get a MP3car)

    Question

You're from Colorado Springs? I was just there three weeks ago. Nice place, but it snowed Friday night, and was very cold Saturday. But climbing mountains was fun. Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to check out any of the Tesla stuff, so perhaps I will go back...

It wouldn't be hard at all to create a control for winamp that lets you set whenever you want to have the sound played..
