Thread: Which Windows to use? Win 95.98, ME or 2K?

i use 95 just because its fast. i would rule out 2k just because its cool for home use due to stability, but it would be slow to boot and shutdown for the car. 98 would also be a good alternative especially if you are playing dvd's, and ME would be too since ive heard its fast. i guess alot of it is just personal preference.

i use ME in mine because it has a fast boot time. 95 would probably boot pretty quickly too and i would recommend it if your system specs (especially ram) are kinda low. but if you have enough ram and your specs are pretty good, i would go with ME.

Im running 98..... quick to boot (with 98lite) and is a bit more stable than 95 I reckon. Win2K would be great from a stability point of view, but it boots soooooo slow!!!

my desktop takes 6 minutes to boot 98.

is that bad?

my networking is fine. but you are right about finding other computers. it gets slow sometimes and takes 5-10sec. to find other computers, even with a switch. what ive done though is make a shortcut in network neighborhood (this was in win 2k) to my mp3car and it instantly finds it. 98lite is a great choice though, or at least from what ive heard. i know ive considered using it.

WinME all the way.... Put it like this. If u are into multimedia and more then WinME all the way. 95 if u don't need all that. Win98/NT/2k should not be considered at all.

This has been covered many, many times before. YOu can use the search feature to locate past threads containing the info you need.

wizardPC: Sounds like your machine is waiting for an IP address. Either remove TCP/IP, or if that is not an option statically assign one (as long as your network supports it).

That's 4 minutes at the BIOS screen. I think it has to do with some problems I had putting in my new Western Digital Hard Drive. It's really a moot point now, because my new stuff is coming in today, and my sister (who has used a computer maybe 10 times in her life) is getting the slow one
