Bootskin problem

I changed my bootskin on my computer. Now I have a problem. Everything works fine. Windows loads, no problem. But at bootup it acts like the bootskin is a whole different OS. (You know, like when you've got 2 versions of windows installed it prompts you to choose the one you want)

So I have to select the bootskin windows.

What's up with thta and how do I make it go right to the bootskin version?

Open boot.ini on your active partition, normaly c:\
The file is hidden but can be opened in an explorer like this c:\boot.ini

modify the file.. but be aware, it's a very dagerous action if you don't know what you're doing.. mini looks like this..

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Right. That's what the bootskin program does is modify the boot.ini file. I don't know how to alter it myself to make it do what I want.

Can someone break down what the relevant steps in the process are?

And I've screwed up the boot.ini file before and learned the hard way to save it before you change anything. That's a hell of a good safety tip TheKingPlaza gives.
