Sound not working in Dos

Ok, I have a built in CS4232 Sound card on my mobo. I want to use it in Dos for mpxplay. It works fine in windows. When I run mpxplay in dos, it won't work, so I installed the dos drivers, which make my card a SBpro compatible card. it puts that in the Dos startup script. When I boot down to dos, I see it run that program and tell me my info on the card. Mpxplay still won't work. When I run the sound card config for mpxplay (mpxplay -scm) it says "unknown card: MID"
Could this be caused by running the Dos 6.2 version on Dos 7? I thought they were compatible though.
Please help me! This is annoying.

No 6.2 or 6.22 and 7.1 or 7.11 are not compadable. Most of the commands will not run on eachother. If you are running dos have you ever considered not having windows boot at all and going strait to a doss prompt? I'm not really shure how you have it set up.

Are you talking about the Pmode/W version of MPXPlay? I've been running MPXPlay 1.42 Pmode/W on my DOS 7.1 - based machine without any problems.

If you're running MPXPlay 1.42, try editing the mpxplay.ini file and changing the 'sound card type' from 0 (autodetect) to 14 (SB Pro) or 3 (WSS).

I came across an article which describes how to put a CS4232 into WSS mode (This would beat SB Pro emulation by a long shot). Then MPXPlay 'should' see it as a "windows sound system compatible" sound card.

If you can get this thing to work, you should be in pretty good shape. The Crystal sound-chips get pretty good ratings in the area of sound quality. http://www.pcavtech.com/soundcards/compare/index.htm

I'm having the exact opposite problem. My Vibra 16 card works fine with MPXPlay and was easy to set up, but the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Replaced the Vibra 16 card with a cheap Pine Technologies ISA sound card, which is based on the CS4235 chipset.

The sound quality was pretty good compared to the Vibra 16.

It was a pain to set up, but I got it to work with MPXPlay in WSS mode.

I removed the sound blaster drivers from the autoexec.bat and config.sys, removed the "set blaster" string from the autoexec.bat and then used the following settings:
