Euhm... yeah that would be cool wouldn't it ?

but sending some text through the soundcard rca jacks... ???????
What kind of soundcard do you have ??
I really don't think ANY soundcard is capable off this..
And then on the other end.. I don't know of a headunit that will take some text command from an AUDIO-input....

If you want to do something like this, you have to go the 'Radio' route..
Get some aftermarket radio converter that you would hook up to the sound-card output...
This converter converts the input in a normal FM-Radio-Station.. let's say 100.5 FM
You tune your radio to the frequency and hear the music that is comming out of the pc....

Now.....
A while ago i was looking in the conrad-catalogue, and I noticed something..

It was called the RDS-Temperatur-Meter...
Some small device that you would connect between the antenne input of the radio and the antenne...
This device then displays the current temperature on the radio it's rds-display...

Maybe this could be hacked.. (but I doubt it.. you will have to send lots of info to the radio....)

I think you have to look again what can purchased in real-world... Yes.. we are living at a time that almost anything can be done...

If you get an idea, think it over, and try to find out what kind of impact it has, and what it needs to achieve that something...

Some may look real sweet and no hasle to do it, but when you really look at it, you bet you want to run away, cause all kinds of things you may or may have not thought about will come at you...

I really hope this has given some info to you what it involves getting the Artist and the Track info on your Head-unit it's display !

The only way to send DATA to the headunit is to either use RDS like Raas mentioned, or to send the data over the headunit's data bus pins. These pins are used for interface with CD-changers and other aftermarket audio/video products.

I think I found some info on the pioneer ip-bus protocol, and some other one as well right here: http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~harn/mp3_cdc.htm

would be interesting if someone could make a ip-bus to serial port cable and a program to make the head unit think that the computer is a cd-changer =)
you could use almost all functionalities of your head unit to control winamp ( next/prev track, song name, next playlist, etc...)

from that website moahdib montioned, under the section abou pioneer:
I have also designed a small circuit using a AT90S2313 controller which can be used for logging the transfer through the pc serial port and also to send commands.
i think half the work has been done already
