hmmm I never try to use CDRW just under XP, it works as CD-rom but didn't try to write CD-R I just assume that it wouldn't work since 'Easy CD Creator' says it can't find driver for CDRW. I'll try to write CD-R just under XP.

But my Cannon Multipass L6000 Fax/printer doesn't work for sure. It needs 'MultiPass Background' program running in background to work but they is no updated program for XP yet. I email cannon support but they say they don't have XP driver yet and they don't know when it will come out.

And the last hardware problem , my HP keyboard (model # SK-2505)I have it for car computer , I took it apart for a volume control and shortcut buttons. It also doesn't work in XP.

i really want to install XP on my carputer. i have XP Pro on my home pc, and it runs great. not 1 blue screen yet and i had no problems with hardware compatibility. If i can get XP to boot/shutdown faster than Win 95, ill install it in the car. The nice thing is the amount of tweaks there are for XP. Im very impressed so far, even the difference of stability between 2000 and XP is evident (XP is more stable).

I can't use my USB GPS unit in XP. The drivers were written for 98/ME. It just simply wont work (yet).

Otherwise, XP is running fine in the car. Boot/Shut down time is faster than ME. It takes about 5secs to hibernate. I haven't checked boot time yet but it's also faster.

Oh and the display is very clear compared to WinME. I don't know if 2K had the cleartype stuff but it's a must have for lcd screens. Very nice.

I'm still in the process of getting my carpc together and I haven't gotten as far as making an OS decision yet, I've been toying with XP at home and it doesn't seem to support 640x480 res. although I haven't looked into it much. Anyone know more on the subject? My screen only has 640x480, and this could be a big issue.

I have an Earthmate GPS unit so I think you might be safe.

You can run 640X480 in Home and Pro.

I would like to throw in my two sense about winME.
First of all let me say that I have been building PC's for a living since windows 3.1 and have had most of the MOC training as it is released.
Windows ME is a good OS. I have been running it since release and have not had to re-install once. I am constantly changing hardware and upgrading my system and am very happy with it's performance. You guys have to remember a couple of things:
    1. It's up to the mnfg to write good drivers for the OS. and most mnfg that I deal with have ME mentioned in all of there new drivers.
    2. %96 of complaints about each operating system come from people who are basic user's. People who would not think to remove a driver before removing the associated hardware etc. Anyone who has called me complaining about XP just doesn't know how to use it properly (same in winME/98 and of course the major one win95!)
I have used ME in my car and am quite happy with it.
But most importantly it's up to each of us to decide which os we like the best and what we need. I know of customers who still use win95 first edition because it's all they need and it suits them just fine.
    Just my two Canadian Cense.

I have to agree with craig here... Infact i have been running WinME RC1...go figure. NOT ONE CRASH....
I would suggest WinME first and then XP next. Infact I know for a fact i will be running XP on my next setup.

If that doesnt work i'll upgrade to XP. Im sick of having to reinstall OS everytime something goes wrong.
