    Question Monitoring Software.

Does anyone have any information about software that can be used to monitor the status of the computer system? Things like temperature, fan RPM's, etc? My motherboard BIOS monitors these things, so it doesn't seem like a stretch for software to pull that information and report it in a nice neat little window . . .

Let me know, thank you very much in advance.

The best one is Motherboard Monitor 5.0 (MBM5) which you can set it up so it puts whatever information you want ( temp, fan , etc ) on a On Screen Display, and you can position it anywhere on the screen.
I have a pic showing this:
Look at the very bottom in white...it shows CPU and PC temperatures. http://photos.yahoo.com/bc/partycar2...iew=t&.hires=t

I have some software that came with my BookPC and it has saved my system more than once.

The first time, I had the heater on and forgot that the floor vent was DIRECTLY BEHIND my computer. the program flashed on the screen and started beeping at me. I switched to A/C and turned it up full blast and watched the temp drop.

The last time was less dramatic, but could have been worse. the CPU fan went out--so I cut the system off instead of just pumping cold air into the backplane

i know for the newer amd chips all it takes is the cpu fan to die and the chip is fried in 3 seconds. some of this software doesnt even have enough time to save it. just some cool info for you guys. you dont have to worry about the older chips.

I second the nod for mbm 5, its a great piece of software. ive had it running in my car since I got my lcd (and on my desktops for a long long time). i must say its pretty amusing to see a duron750 at -7C. Depending on your chipset and your mainboard manufacturer, you might have other options if for some reason you dont like mbm (but that would be unheard of). via has their hardware monitor, abit has one, as do most. another cool bit of monitoring software is from a guy on the anandtech forums, daisyman, who has written a piece of software called CoolMon (formerly cool info). It can interface with mbm to display all the hardware info as well as windows level info (swap file, net usage, etc).
