Thread: linux dvd

I use xine as my dvd software in linux. Theres a few pieces of software you need to get dvd working though.

heres a quick list:

xine http://xine.sourceforge.net

a dvd plugin. I use:
xine-dvdnav http://dvd.source.forge.net

which needs this software installed first:
libdvdread http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/groups/dvd/downloads.shtml
and
libdvdcss http://www.videolan.org

arg i have all that crap installed and nothing

do you have a link to your dvd drive like

/dev/dvd symlinked to /dev/cdrom

Other than that.......does the "nav" button show up in your panel in xine. Are you clicking on that, then pressing play to start the movie.

Also read what xine spits out when you run it in a command window. It usually shows errors or if something is wrong

alright i got videolan to play dvds now
ogle won't, libdvdcss failure
xine doesn't do anything when u press the "dvd" button and i have it symlinked, if u specify the vob files it won't play either

well if dvdnav is installed right on xine and xine detects it. There will be a "NAV" button, then "VCD", then "DVD".......and "NAV" is the button to use. Otherwise try reinstalling the dvdnav plugin. Now press the NAV button, then press play to start the dvd.
