I was wandering if anyone can give me some advise on Linux mp3 software, the only one I've used is the on that comes with Mandrake. Basically I need one which I can write plugins for, so I can carry on using my RS232 controller. If anyone has any advise (preferably based on experiance)other than search the web please let me know.
Also I'm aware that writting to the RS232 ports in Linux is a pain, so any tips here wouldn't go a miss.
And you say people actually pay money for M$ Windows?
www.mp3mini.co.uk (Does what it says on the URL) www.openclassic.co.uk (The new car, with zero rust!) www.rob-web.co.uk (My other site)
Total re-design underway: on the whole progress is very slow as the car is taking up too much time :)
There is a project called E.L.M.P. This is still under development but it does support this kind of thing. I want to use it on my player but I'm waiting for the next version to come out.
Mpg123 isn't bad, and runs well on a very modest machine (<20% CPU usage on my P233). I ported it to DOS for my player. The homepage is www.mpg123.de and source is available for download there.

If Linux is a pain, I'd hate to know what windows is. When you get used to it Linux isn't that bad. I better stop there as I don't want to start a war over platforms. Currently I've got windows 98 and it runs fine, but I want something that boots faster, so Linux is the logical choice, especially if you build your own version.

If it isn't Windows or isn't a TFT screen, abcd will happily dismiss it as crap. I think it's because he wants to take over the world with Cobra, and I heard that Cobra a) is dropping support for character LCDs, and b) doesn't have a Linux port. Go figure.Originally posted by Rob Heslop:

And that site works just fine for me, i just checked it, twice. It must detect your anti Linux-ness and not let you in. Oh well, your loss.

The CAJUN project has serial LCD ouput. Also, it is written in PERL...how good can you get. I believe it is completely open source, so have at it.
There is also the project called Mp3 Software Box located at http://www.mp3sb.org they have many different front ends and an API for writing your own, this is what I run in my apartment and it works great for a jukebox

Charles, you are really starting to **** me off. Windows is what we don't need for This project. Linux can be made to boot extremly quickly, is extremly stable, and has many mp3 players for it.
I am really getting sick of your ideas of what is the perfect setup. It is really getting on my nerves. You have never even used linux, have you? Or if you have, you gave up after 5 minutes.
I have setup a linux mp3 player, and had it playing 10 seconds after post.
AND, is has journaling File Systems, unlike fat32.
SO, unless you stop your posting little comments which you have no real opinion in, you are being just as bad as skinny_boy was.
(note: Skinny has really became a nice guy)
So, until you have the experience to make a real comment, don't.
All your crappy Cobra software is is a bunch of Spaghetti VB code.
I could write the same thing in 5 minutes on Kylix (delphi for windows) in about an hour,
but I think TFT screens are a stupid idea.
