    Question viavoice +winamp

I have a copy of Viavoice 99 sitting around,
does anyone know if it is possible to use it to control winamp? How accurate is it? and is it possible to still use it if Winamp is set as the shell?

    Thumbs down

I tried Viavoice earlier this summer with little to no success. And this was in a very quiet environment just to see if it worked. Basically it sucked! If you're looking for a way to control your PC I'd recommend you use a keypad, contact switches, a touch screen or something like that. Something you have to touch.

Also with the background noise generated by a car and music playing you'd be lucky to control anything.

    I agree.

I have a JVC eKameleon deck with voice control and it is complete ****e. I haven't used it in months because to get it to work while the car is running you have to scream at it.... and it still won't work most of the time. It's ok while the car is off though.

I made a program a while ago in visual basic 6. Using microsoft's speech sdk 5.1 i got quite accurate results. The project was exactly what you are talking about, I could say the song or artist name, or winamp commands. It worked out better than I thought.

Okay, I threw it together today get it at members.tripod.com/~a_channell/carvoice.zip you will need to download Speech 5.1 (I don't know if they have one besides the SDK) go to www.microsoft.com/speech for it. Any questions ask them here. It needs lots of work (all source code is included) and anyone who wants can change it in any way they like. (It is really easy to add more features and voice systhesis)
P.S. it looks for MP3's in the folder c:\music, you can change this is the code if you want.
