Can I upgrade XP home to prefoessional?

My company needs to upgrade the computers we have from the off the shelf XP Home editions to the XP Professional editions.

I can get the XP upgrade from Microsoft for free because we're a non profit. But can I 'upgrade' XP Home to XP Professional?

They say the full version licence is not available for free.

Funny. I just went through this recently for a client...
The license isn't free, this is true.
You can get XP PRo upgrades that will do the upgrade, keep all your settings and software. They're about $180 per upgrade in small quantities, but you say you can get them for free as a NPO. Go that woute. The actual upgrade takes about 45-60 min per workstation.

Considering that when XP was released there was no upgrade path from XP Home to XP Pro, these upgrades are very welcome.

Edit: Sorry, I missed your point. You're asking it from licensing stand point. Can't help you there. I'm sure others can provide you with answers.

I was just asking is the software upgrade existsed. I'll worry about begging Microsoft for free copies of it on my own.

Thanks for telling me about the Home to Pro upgrade though! That's what I needed to know!

If I were you I wouldn't upgrade. Micro$oft products don't take kindly to that even though they are supposed to do it.

Hey cheap is cheap. They say they don't give away the full version of XP. May as well try the cheap way first.

I've actually used teh XP Home to XP PRo upgrade and it works rather nicely, surprisingly. The only issue was one of printer drivers that needed to be removed and uninstalled. Crappy Dell/Lexmarkl units... Don't like them anyway...
