don't most front ends have a three key salute that eject you from the current game?? since you will be playing with a gamepad, etc... what about just looking into remapping non-used buttons on the controller to handle volume, etc??

I have a few versions of MAME and they all just kick back to the MAME frontend whenever you hit ESC, but on the MAMEoX (XBox) I think it is just Select/Start at the same time and you are back...

Humm, I don't have any examples since I haven't made a frontend for an emulator before. However, if you're looking for some code that will find the emulator window and some templates for sending receiving messages to and from then I will gladly whip up some snippets. Just ask.

Well emulators like MAME can be accessed using a simply command line like "MAME MSLUG3" which will run Metal Slug 3 without anything else seen, so maybe just a frontend full of these shortcuts?

But lets say you wanted to have buttons to perform save states and other operations. Ideally the emulator can take parameters for all these actions and tests to make sure only one instance is running at a time. However, most are not written this way.

If you guys had seen my post on Dual Screen setup you would see that i had a basic Emulator frontend on the back LCD screen.

There are MAME versions of snes nes atari 2600 genesis/mega drive etc.

What i mean is i had these setup and it had the default mame keys so esc quit ALL of the emulators

U can hack the dat file for zsnes to set esc as the exit key and with genesis you can get a mame button config for esc games.

All these emulators support sending game info to the emulator

    E.g. zsnes metroid

Look for emulators for use in MAME cabinets people have hacked these to use esc as the exit button of the emulator

It's how I had mine setup

I basiclly made a frontend which looked like the mame32 where a screenshot shows up of the game when you scroll the list.

Altho i had snes pads controlling the frontend

    try Mess

its a emulator with nes snes mame etc all combined with c64 its got a hell of alot of emulators

Now take a look at this

I think this is all you need its a nes emulator called Nestopia

Embed it into media car or whatever frontend you like

    Nestopia.exe is the file

    *Nestopia* is the search string

This is a opensource nes emulator made in c++ and if i get time (which i don't think so) i'll try to edit the menu system for more touchscreen friendly

Also the emulator pauses when you shutdown the GPS window in media car and will start again if you touch the game screen

    pretty good i think

Hope this helps you a bit?

I didn't find it i've been embedding nes/snes/etc for a while in my carpc

You can embed zsnes gens and hell of alot of emulators.

If i can find some info on embedding windows into a VB app i'll make a small Game launcher where you launch the game for each system and then it embeds the game into the VB app so you only embed the gamelauncher so all the emulators like nes snes etcare run in the 1 window

I haven't found any info on embedding a app into vb yet
