Red face AH, PLEASE HELP>>BOOT UP PROBLEMS

ok, this is really weird. I boot up my computer and it asks for the following files: vnetsup.vxd, vredit.vxd, dfs.vxd. Then, when windows 98 SE loads up it states that msnp32.dll is missing....everything seems to work fine though. Anyone help me out?

Also the stupid computers really wants a flopy drive...but it isnt going to get one, is there a way to configure the bios to not search for the flopy?

    thanks

Sounds like you need to reinstall Win98SE, or maybe you deleted a program wrong and it is looking for files set in the start-up files. Reinstall 98SE if that doesn't help, then run "msconfig" or another utility that displays the stuff in startup.

Look through your BIOS for "Floppy seek on boot", or just disable everything to do with the floppy.

Installing Windoze over the top probably won't help, try it first though, you might have to reformat and reinstall...

I think this problem occurs when you have a problem with your network and adapters ect. Do you have a lan card? If so, right click on network neighborhood and remove your adapter for your network card. Reboot windows and reinstall all the drivers. This should help, if not, reinstall windows.

Run regedit and delete the following registry keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\VNETSUP

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\VxD\VREDIR

as dor the DLL it's probably in your registry somewhere too. You could search for the name and see if it is loaded somewhere.

Hey buddy just format the HDD and reinstall the OS cause if you do a kiss up job and the comp starts to act funny in the car man it sucks!! :-)

and for the floppy go to the bios setup there you will a option as standard bios setup where the date and the time thing is displayed below is the HDD information and so on there you will find the fdd information also just say none and she wont ask for it again :-)

technics is right. delete those registry keys and you should be fine. like crazyshaxs said, you might also want to start in safe mode and remove all your network clients, adapters, and protocols from your network properties. then reinstall those you need. there is no need to format and start from scratch.

for the msnp32 thing, run sysedit and get rid of the section in system.ini that says msnp32. not sure if that does it or not, but i know there is alot of msnp32 stuff in the registry. whatever you do, just make a backup of the registry and delete what you want. if you mess up, start in safe mode and restore the backup of the registry.

    Cool

Don't reinstall the OS, and don't reformat. You don't need to. First, copy alll the CAB files from the Win98 CD onto your HD. Then, in Network Properties, remove everything. Reboot. It will redetect the network card (assuming PNP) and want to copy the files from the Win98 CD. Point it to the directory where your CAB files are located. Once things are installed, reboot and remove everything from Network Properties again. Then reboot and let it redetect. If it wants the files, again point it to the CAB directory. Reboot, and problem should be solved. 10 minute operation.

Yeah I had this problem at first, goto the microsoft support site and type in one of those file names, you'll find an article about extracting those files from the windows cd. This fixed it for me, but then I had to re-install windows again anyway... So either way you can just pull them from the cd or redo it all. http://support.microsoft.com/directory/
