Post o heck ya, got win98 without winamp as shell to boot in 30 sec!

I used to go in about 1 minute without a monitor, and 40sec with a monitor, so i checked out some monitor settings.. and the feature "Auto Detect Plug and Play Monitor" was checked, i unchecked it.. also changed winamp processing to normal and it starts faster and reads faster (i thought realtime would help, but that takes away the processing power for video card which is a major factor in going from song to song if you use the +###+ thing. then i shut down, disconnected monitor, turn comp on and timed it, 30 secs. sweeeeeeets. 948 songs each accessible within 10 seconds. llalala im so happy.

when u say without monitor, u mean your video card is physically in the computer, but the monitor just isnt plugged in right?

also where did you go to change the winamp processing?

    -thanks

yes video card in computer, but no monitor connected. The detect plug & play monitors was hanging trying to detect a monitor when there was none.
And to change processing, just go the the options, preferences, then options again and it should be under there.

    mtn dew power!

Tim, if you dont have it already, you could try for an even faster time by using 98lite. Boots my regular 'puter in about 20 secs. Very Very Nice. Used to be about a minute!

98lite is a program that stips win98 of IE and makes both win95 and win98 more tweakable

Yeah, I've got 25 seconds of BIOS crap too. Really ****es me off, 'cos then after that's done, it takes less than 5 secs for DOS and my player to boot. So the BIOS is >80% of my boot time.

Anyone know how to do anything about this (reduce the BIOS boot time)?
