    BJ >> I'm quite sure (not 100% sure) that if you have ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) enabled Windows 2000 should handle the Power Button in the same way as Windows ME.

    Bj: Yes it will, but you have to have an ACPI compatible mother board and 2000 has to think that you have it (which is the limiting factor usually).. Look in the device manager, the computer will be listed as ACPI compatible right at the top if it is.. (dont try to force 2k to think it is however, easy way to crash system totally).. If it is ACPI compatible you will have the option to change what the power button does..
