If you are refering to win2k, then yer friend is nuts. Windows 2000 takes forever to boot and will not be good for a car mp3 player since it is based on the NT file system.
Haven't seen it myself yet, but a good friend of mine tried out a beta for Windows Millenium (the new 95/98), and he said that it boots up much, much faster than 98. Sounds like good news to me.

No, he's talking about Windows Millenium...aka Windows ME. I've too have heard that it boots very fast.

(PSSSS, don't forget "ilegal copy", it's just for testing anyway...
I've said a bunch of times, but I don't think anyone is willing to give it a try. But I'm willing to bet that if you used the hibernation feature with win2k, it would beat any of your start up times. If it wasn't for my scsi bios, my computer would boot up in about 10 seconds with hibernation. Not to mention that it puts ya right back where you left off.
edit: make that "beat any of your window's start up times".

No hibernation feature is going to get around the lengthy BIOS POST on my mobo. Disregarding the POST checks, my MP3 player boots (until I have a menu of CDs to choose from) in around 5 secs (including loading DOS).

New system at design/prototype stage on BeagleBoard.
Windows ME is much faster than regular 98, but if youve stripped 98 to the bone like most of us have done its not really faster..
99 ram 5.9 turbo
P4 2.0, MicroATX, Audigy2nx, Monster Cable / Alpine.
Coming soon: Indash motorized, 5.1, dvdrw, gps, bluetooth, wifi, and more!
I garantee that 98lite will come out with a version taylored for ME, thus making it even faster. Anyways, whats up w/ with this hybernation thing? What is it?
I'm pretty sure that the new 98lite (the beta one you can download) has support for Windows ME included.. I haven't tried it yet with ME but the beta worked fine with 98.. worth a shot.. I've also heard the ME boots a LOT faster.. might be a good way to compensate for those slow BIOSes (mine included ugh).
